Suffolk Construction Finalizes Construction of New Bachelor Housing at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Georgia

Suffolk Construction Southeast recently celebrated the ribbon-cutting for the new 200-bed bachelor housing facility at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Ga.

Commissioned by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, and formally called Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ), the 63,062-square-foot building houses a non-commissioned officer (NCO) bunk, laundry facilities, a kitchen, a barracks office, BBQ areas, covered bicycle storage and exterior wash down areas.

The $15 million facility also features 8,000 square feet of common space that includes a recreation area with a movie theater, pool tables, foosball, air hockey tables and sitting areas.

The exterior façade consists of split face masonry units, two-color Boral brick with precast concrete sill, and blast resistant aluminum storefronts. Construction was finalized in less than 18 months.

Currently pursuing LEED New Construction Gold certification, Suffolk Construction worked to incorporate energy conservation features such as efficient heating and cooling, low wattage lighting, reduced potable water usage, and other energy optimization standards.

This project is the first Federal project for Suffolk's Southeast region!
