Officials Break Ground On Mass Eye And Ear Facility Expansion
BOSTON, MA, October 27, 2011 - Officials gathered today to celebrate the groundbreaking for 800 Huntington Ave., the future site of an outpatient facility for Mass Eye and Ear.
The $75 million development will expand the institution's specialized medical services into a new neighborhood.
The project will create 125 new construction jobs and 70 permanent jobs. The facility is expected to open in October 2012.
The Beal Cos. owns 800 Huntington Ave. and will be developing the site. The existing two-story building will be renovated and redeveloped into a three story, 90,000-square-foot complex with a glass façade that will improve the pedestrian experience along Huntington Avenue. The new building will be situated at a bend in the road and will be a prominent new addition to the view from Brigham Circle.
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino joined Robert Beal, president of The Beal Cos.; Bruce Beal, chairman of The Beal Cos.; and John Fernandez, president and CEO of Mass Eye and Ear at the groundbreaking.
The project architect is Tsoi/Kobus & Assoc. and Suffolk Construction is the construction manager.
