Suffolk Construction Awarded ConRAC Project at Logan Airport
July 8, 2010
Suffolk Construction Company was recently awarded a significant construction project at Logan International Airport?the Consolidated Rental Car Facility and Southwest Service Area, or ConRAC. The ConRAC project will incorporate sustainable design elements with the goal of achieving a LEED Silver rating and recognition from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts "LEED Plus" program. The value of this project is estimated at $250 million.

Suffolk Education to Manage Construction of Massachusetts College of Art and Design Residence Hall

Suffolk Education, a Suffolk Construction team that specializes in managing construction projects in the education sector, was awarded the Massachusetts College of Art and Design residence hall project located on Huntington Avenue in Boston, Massachusetts. The $61 million, 21-story residence hall will add 493 beds and 145,000 square feet of dormitory space to the school campus. The residence hall will also include a new health center that will serve students of MassArt, the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and Wentworth Institute of Technology. The new building will feature eco-friendly elements designed to achieve LEED Silver certification.

Suffolk Construction Awarded $19.2M Marine Corps Contract

Michael Beaumier, vice president of Suffolk Construction, today announced that the Sarasota, Fla., firm has been awarded a $19.2 million contract to design and construct a fitness center at Camp Lejeune, a U.S. Marine Corps base in North Carolina. Suffolk partnered with Zyscovich Architects, TLC Engineering and Kimley Horn and Associates on this design/build LEED Platinum facility.

Suffolk Construction Awarded Miami Dade College Classroom/Student Union Facility Project

Suffolk Construction Company, Inc., recently announced it was awarded the Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus Classroom/Student Union facility project. The new $25 million Classroom/Student Union facility will provide an additional 110,000 gross square feet of new academic and support space to the institution?s Wolfson Campus. The SIX-story facility will include classrooms, FILM archival library, wellness center, student union/student life center, and a food court and general eating area.

Suffolk Receives the Associates Builders and Contractors National Award for Excellence in Safety

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) today announced that Suffolk Construction Company's Southeast Region maintained an exemplary safety record that has earned them the prestigious national safety award in the General Contractor category of ABC's National Safety Excellence Awards. Suffolk's Regional Directors of Safety, John Murphy and Ken Becker, received the award in February during the 20th annual Excellence in Construction awards celebration at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel and Convention Center.

Suffolk Construction and Webcor Builders Awarded Green Miami Science Museum Project

Suffolk Construction Company, Inc., partnering with Webcor Builders of San Francisco, has been awarded the contract to manage construction of the new 250,000 square-foot Miami Science Museum in Museum Park, Miami, Florida. The key components of the new Miami Science Museum will include a 35,000 square-foot aquarium, a planetarium, and approximately 55,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor science exhibits. The new green Museum was designed as a highly sustainable, LEED-certified building that will reduce costs and serve as a showcase for the most state-of-the-art energy management and control technology in the country. The Selection Panel consisted of the Construction Committee of the Miami Science Museum and representatives of the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County.

Suffolk Wins Palm Beach State College Project

Suffolk Construction Company, Inc., was recently awarded a classroom building project by Palm Beach State College. The $8.3 million project will include construction of a new 36,000 square-foot multi-story building. The state-of-the-art teaching facility will create a dynamic teaching and learning environment for students by shifting the educational paradigm away from simply delivering content and toward engaging, empowering and connecting students nationwide. Palm Beach State College will be aiming for LEED Gold certification.

Suffolk Wins Florida Marlins Stadium Parking Garages Project

Suffolk Construction Company's Southeast region has been awarded a contract to manage construction of the Florida Marlins Stadium Parking Garages valued at $75 million. The project consists of four parking garages -- two at six stories high and two at five stories high -- and six surface lots, along with retail space.

Suffolk Wins Los Angeles Unified School District South Region Middle School Project

Suffolk Construction Company, Inc., has been awarded its fourth building construction project for the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) -- the new, $35.5 million South Region Middle School #3 campus. The South Region Middle School #3 campus will consist of four separate buildings that will include 38 classrooms for over 1,000 students. The facility will also include administration offices, learning community schools, food service, multi-purpose gymnasiums and fields, and a parking garage.

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, January 19, 2010 -- Suffolk Construction Company, Inc., was recently recognized on the Training magazine "Training Top 125" list as one of the nation's elite organizations in learning and development for employees. Suffolk ranked in the top 30 (#29) and was listed higher than notable national organizations such as Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, McDonalds, and Intel, among others. Suffolk was the second highest-ranked construction company on this year's list. Suffolk To Build AI Tech Center in Hartford, Connecticut

Suffolk Construction joined state and local officials, and representatives from AI Engineers, CBT Architects and Jones Lang LaSalle for the unveiling of plans for the new, $38 million AI Tech Center to be constructed at 3 Constitution Plaza in Hartford, Connecticut. Suffolk will construct the 13-story, 259,000 square-foot office tower that will incorporate numerous green technologies, including photovoltaic power, a fuel cell power plant, and a rooftop garden and atrium that will maximize natural light throughout the building. The AI Tech Center has been designed and registered to achieve a LEED certification goal of Platinum under the Green Building Rating System, which is the highest designation issued by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Suffolk Education Wins Contract To Build New College of Pharmacy at the University of Rhode Island

Suffolk Education recently announced that it has been awarded a contract to manage the construction of a new, $45 million, state-of-the-art College of Pharmacy Building at the University of Rhode Island. The new 147,000 square-foot laboratory and academic building will be built in close proximity to four existing active campus buildings. The project is on an aggressive schedule, and Suffolk?s ability to provide comprehensive preplanning, adhere to budget and schedule, and deliver complex laboratory and academic facilities are essential to the success of this project.

Suffolk Wins Government Project at the Naval Submarine Base New London

Suffolk Construction was awarded a federal government design-build project for the Navy-an $8 million contract for a new Waterfront Operations Small Craft Facility at the Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Connecticut. Suffolk is partnering with AECOM to construct the 13,498 square-foot facility, which will consolidate port operations activities into one central building. The facility will include administrative space, classrooms, two high bays for boat maintenance and a painting booth.

Suffolk Construction Receives Platinum Award for Participation in the Harvard Contractor Safety Assessment Program
August 21, 2009
Suffolk Construction was recognized for its first-class safety program by achieving Platinum Award status after participating in the Harvard Contractor Safety Assessment Program. The assessment is an independent evaluation administered by ConstructSecure, Inc., which reviews safety programs of companies performing work at Harvard University. The organization measured both historical performance and forward-looking factors within companies' safety programs. The award recognizes the comprehensive safety program Suffolk put in place as it completed renovations to several student residence halls at Harvard University over the summer.

Suffolk Begins Construction at Kroc Community Center

Suffolk Construction joined the Salvation Army of Massachusetts and state and local officials for the groundbreaking for the Boston Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the Uphams-Dudley section of North Dorchester/Roxbury. The 90,000 square-foot, $33 million community center will feature a gymnasium, fitness center, chapel/theater, aquatics center, daycare center, classrooms, computer lab, art room, and prayer chapel. The Kroc Center is made possible through the generous bequest from the estate of Joan Kroc, wife of McDonald's founder Ray Kroc, as well as local fundraising efforts.

Suffolk Education Begins Construction at Boston Renaissance Charter Public School

Suffolk Education recently announced that it broke ground and began renovations and construction of a new $39.6 million facility to house the Boston Renaissance Charter Public School. The Suffolk team is renovating an existing, three-story mill building and warehouse in the Hyde Park section of Boston, Massachusetts, and constructing a 20,000 square-foot addition. The Boston Renaissance Charter Public School is the largest charter school in Boston, serving children from 10 city neighborhoods.

Berry Division Achieves Paperless Environment

Berry has reached a significant milestone in its quest for a paperless construction project. Using Bluebeam PDF Revu software, Berry and architect Perkins + Will, along with all subcontractors, electronically redlined 42,000 pages of construction documents in PDF. The result was an Overlook Center project that was almost completely paperless.

Suffolk Healthcare Completes Fit-Out of New Fenway Health Facility

Suffolk Healthcare announced that it has completed the fit-out of Fenway Health's new home at 1340 Boylston Street in Boston's Fenway neighborhood. The 100,000 square-foot facility includes examination rooms, treatment facilities, therapy rooms, a street-level retail pharmacy, state-of-the-art auditorium and conference center, and office space.

Suffolk Wins Government Project at United States Military Academy at West Point

Suffolk Construction announced it was awarded a significant federal government project-the Motor Pool Facilities Relocation project at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. Suffolk will be responsible for managing construction of this expansive $41 million project, which will include construction of a maintenance building, administrative building, fuel station, access control point, secondary fuel station, and optional vehicle wash building. The project will also include the construction of supporting facilities, site improvements and antiterrorism/force protection.

Suffolk Completes Construction of Boston's House of Blues Music Hall

Suffolk recently completed construction of Boston?s House of Blues music hall. The new House of Blues music hall rises three stories and holds more than 2,400 patrons, making it one of the largest concert halls in Boston. Built on the site of the former Avalon and Axis nightclubs, Suffolk?s project team completed construction on an aggressive schedule in time for the House of Blues? scheduled February opening.

Suffolk To Build New Terminal at Barnstable Municipal Airport

Suffolk Construction announced that it was selected by the Barnstable Municipal Airport Commission (BMAC) to provide preconstruction and construction management at risk services for a new terminal facility at Barnstable Municipal Airport. The new 35,000 square-foot terminal will be built adjacent to the existing terminal, which will be demolished as part of the project. The new terminal will accommodate ticketing facilities, baggage claim, airport management offices, airline offices, passenger and baggage screening areas, a restaurant and a gift shop, Transportation Security Administration offices, and secure/nonsecure holding rooms. The project scope also includes a general reconfiguration of the existing parking lots, the construction of two new parking lots and a new airport circulation roadway.
