Suffolk's team completed a gut-rehab of the existing 22-story Saltonstall Building in downtown Boston. Renovations to this 775,700 square-foot facility included asbestos abatement and demolition as well as reconstruction of each floor to upgrade the core and provide new mechanical and electrical systems.
Existing elevators were upgraded with new finishes and a new elevator was installed with dedicated service to the two-level parking garage. Multi-tenant common corridors and elevator lobbies were renovated and perimeter drywall, insulation, fireproofing and smoke seal were replaced. The team constructed 37,748 square feet of new retail space and 63 residential units totaling 73,638 square feet. One hundred and twenty-eight new parking spaces were also created.
Other work included repairing and cleaning the precast exterior facade. New insulated glass windows were installed throughout, as well as new roofing and waterproofing. Several site improvements include a new plaza with enhanced stairways, ramps, plantings, benches and water features that showcase an existing outdoor sculpture.
